The most important skill to cultivate in a white-collar job is faking it.
This is the most important part of getting ahead in the average corporate environment. Being able to smile and nod through the BS while also proving your capability with those deliverables is the most basic way to survive the farce of the workplace, and it takes up a lot of mental energy when that is not something that comes naturally.
For this reason, many employees find their otherwise pretty doable jobs somewhat of a struggle. The practical tasks are all well and good, if a little boring, but the office politics? That is something it takes a specific breed of human to truly enjoy, and they are not exactly common.
