It’s probably fair to say that most of us have an unhealthy attachment to our devices. Screen addiction is a very real phenomenon, and many of us get antsy when we don’t have our phone within arm’s reach. 

However, most of us are capable of prising our eyes from our electronics for short periods of time at least, which is why some were troubled by a video shared by @naturalkorean. The footage shows an urban street in South Korea. It explains how the city has installed street lights in the pavement so people don’t have to look up from their phones to cross the road safely. Many viewers were not impressed with the reason for this innovation and denounced those who needed it.

Not everyone was quite as horrified, though. Some praised the lights as a futuristic novelty, and others pointed out that they may be useful for those who have sight problems or even social anxiety. While it may be true that the lights are beneficial to many, it’s scary to think that these kinds of changes may increasingly become the norm  — until they figure out how to put microchips in our brains, at least.
