Your group of friends can spend three days deciding where to eat this weekend. On Tuesdays, the whole thing is solved in seconds. Let’s welcome another Taco Tuesday, everyone! 

Everyone suddenly has a schedule that works. The friend who was going to stay home is asking whether we’re getting margaritas. Excellent. Tonight, dinner is happening. 

After you get to the place and make your order, for a brief moment, the table is quiet. All you hear is crunchy taco shells giving up underneath a very ambitious amount of filling. The tortillas look accommodating right up until you add one final spoonful of salsa. After that, you have to keep the taco at the same angle for the rest of its life. Your other hand can reach for a margarita once in a while, in between bites. But nobody asks anyone to reach for anything. Your hands would fill everything with salsa and guacamole, passing things around.  

Guacamole is never too much and never enough. It brings out my least generous qualities. I need a mountain of guacamole on my chip and another mountain on my taco. 

In your group of friends, there is the yapper who updates everyone on his life while their food gets cold and the rest of the group is passing around the chips and salsa. When the yapper finishes the story, you have to ask for extra salsa. I respect the friend who takes the time to eat, but finishes chewing and makes the most hilarious remarks. Then there’s the one who wants so badly to talk and eat at the same time, so they speak with their mouth full and no one understands a thing they say. 

But that is the spirit for this Taco Tuesday. Get together with friends, make enthusiastic dinner plans, catch up on your lives, and plan your next Taco Tuesday on your calendar.
