Shouldn’t she know that this is against the law? 

You would think that lawyers would follow the law to a T because they know it better than anyone else, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In the real world, lawyers know the law so well that they know what they can get away with. They know who they can screw over without fearing legal repercussions, and that makes them so much more dangerous than your average incompetent business owner when it comes to breaking the law. They know that if they do something illegal to their underpaid nanny, the chances of it coming back to bite them are slim to none, because said underpaid nanny probably cannot afford a lawyer to help them fight their battles. 

If you’ve ever lost out on wages because your boss is mad that you quit and refused to pay out the rest of your paycheck, you have a genuine case on your hands. The nanny in this story quit her job without a two-week notice, which might be considered unprofessional to some, but it’s a whole heck of a lot less unprofessional than what her boss did next. She declined to pay her for her last shifts because she had bought her a ticket to Disney World, as the nanny was supposed to supervise her kids there in the coming weeks. She claims that, because she couldn’t get a refund, this money would come out of the nanny’s pocket. What she doesn’t expect is that her former nanny will fight back for her lost wages.
