Lazy Landlord Paints Over Roach, Photoshop Memes Ensue

We don’t make the rules, but it seems like for every good landlord, the world is obligated to birth 20+ landlords that fall into the greedy, lazy, or just plain absent category. None of this has improved during the second year of the pandemic. Some landlords can’t even be bothered to request aid – they’d rather just evict their downtrodden tenants and charge someone else more rent. Sometimes, however, tales of their antics are less evil and more ridiculous. This is definitely the case for Twitter user @chellzyeah. Last week they shared a photo of a roach their landlord had painted over with white paint. And boy, did it go viral.

The sheer laziness (or creative incompetence, as my mother would call it) is astounding – the epitome of a «not my job» moment, with one exception: it’s definitely their job. The image didn’t just strike a chord with neglected tenants. It ended up inspiring meme-makers to put their own funny spins on the image with the help of Photoshop. While most dead roaches are swept away, never to bee seen again, this one has has effectively been immortalized in all kinds of positions, but especially ones that turn the arthropod into a fun-loving dancer. As household pests go, this one’s a pretty lucky guy.
