Marvel Dropped The First Trailer For ‘Eternals’ & Twitter’s Wondering Where They’ve Been This Whole Time

After a couple months of exciting Phase 4 teasers (Black Widow, Loki), Marvel has dropped another exciting full-length trailer that delivers an epic sneak peek at November’s Eternals. Until now, this action film was known by us as «the movie that made Kumail Nanjiani repulsively jacked.» Thanks to the trailer, we now know that it’s also got a star-studded cast, was directed by Nomadland’s Chloé Zhao, and is also the movie that made Kumail Nanjiani horrifically and disgustingly jacked.

Jokes aside, the trailer has a lot to offer. We see that the Eternals have been around for thousands of years, and have helped humanity develop life-altering technologies through teaching, but never interfering. You know, until now. The footage lines up well with the official synopsis:

«Marvel Studios’ «Eternals» welcomes an exciting new team of Super Heroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The epic story, spanning thousands of years, features a group of immortal heroes forced out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s oldest enemy, The Deviants. The outstanding ensemble cast includes Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris, Gemma Chan as humankind-loving Sersi, Kumail Nanjiani as cosmic-powered Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as the super-fast Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as the intelligent inventor Phastos, Salma Hayek as the wise and spiritual leader Ajak, Lia McHugh as the eternally young, old-soul Sprite, Don Lee as the powerful Gilgamesh, Barry Keoghan as aloof loner Druig, and Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena. Kit Harington plays Dane Whitman.»

Game of Thrones fans will celebrate the appearance of the brothers Stark (Richard Madden and Kit Harington) as the Eternal Ikaris and Dane Whitman (who later becomes the Black Knight) respectively. Angelina Jolie stuns as the white-haired Thena. We’re probably most excited to see Korean actor Don Lee as Gilgamesh. The burly performer kicked some serious ass in Train to Busan, so we expect to see a lot more of that in an action-packed Marvel movie.

Many Twitter users have been expressing their delight at this gorgeous first look, but there seems to be a pretty common thread to many of the reaction memes: people want to know what the hell the Eternals have been doing this whole time. The trailer makes it really clear that the group of immortals has been watching sh*t go down on Earth for, like, ever. Even when disasters like THANOS (an immortal himself) happened. We’ve really been enjoying the reactions that make fun of their inaction, but we’re pretty sure their logic will be revealed in November. Until then? We’re gonna sit back, relax, and enjoy the memes.
