‘Mean Girls’ Movie Musical Trailer Calls Millennials Old And Inspires Copious Meme Fodder

Sometimes, you can look at a trailer and instantly know you’re in for a total stinker. Unfortunately, the upcoming Mean Girls remake, which is also a musical, is one of those movies. I have not seen the movie yet, but it was supposed to go straight to Paramount Plus, has a January release date, and is only getting a theatrical release because of the SAG strike. After seeing the trailer, I’m still not optimistic.

Whoever edited this trailer made several interesting choices. First of all, it completely hides the fact that it’s a movie musical. None of the characters sing at all in the trailer, which makes it seem like a cheap, pointless remake of the original movie. The musical had a modest two-year run on Broadway from 2018-2020, but it’s nowhere near the cultural juggernaut that the Wicked movie is expected to be. There’s so much to question about this trailer, so you’ve really just got to see it to believe it.
