November 1st is a special day. Some people spend it nursing a Halloween hangover and glumly removing their decorations. Others know it as All Saints Day or World Vegan Day. It’s also the day before my birthday. This is all well and good, but for some people – especially retail workers, frequent shoppers, and many people who feel like kindred spirits with Ebenezer Scrooge – it marks the beginning of a hellish two months. The months where over and over you hear the sweet sounds of Mariah Carey singing about her very short Christmas list. For a lot of us, it’s a grating and constant annoyance that really shouldn’t be so prevalent until after Thanksgiving. Sadly for us haters, that’s just not the reality. And so we shoulder on through tinsel and tinny-sounding speakers at the grocery store. Mariah, we love you. But it’s gone too far. And there are a lot of making memes about it.
