Grandma thought she was being helpful, feeding the baby while her daughter-in-law was in the shower. However, because she didn’t ask permission to give the child formula and knowingly went against her DIL’s wishes, this wasn’t a selfless act of parenting relief; it was an act of rebellion. 

Grandparents are entitled to their opinions about parenting, but there are a few old-school tactics that have gone the way of the dodo for a reason. Giving kids whisky to make them fall asleep or inflicting corporal punishment in the household are a few ways that Granny’s generation majorly differs from modern parental tactics, but regardless of how dated or archaic a grandparent’s opinions are, they should always remain just that… An opinion. 

This modern mom had decided that she was only going to breastfeed her son, refusing to give way to baby formula or bottle-feeding. It’s not because she was against those things, but because this was how she wanted to handle the infancy years for her son. That’s 100% her prerogative to choose how to raise her child, but the mother-in-law, a grandma determined to force her way on the next generation, wouldn’t have it. When their conflicting parenting opinions clashed, the MIL went behind mom’s back and did what she wanted anyway, ruining the new mom’s «No Bottle» policy and driving a wedge between their families, all while unearthing a long-standing jealousy between the women of the household. 

According to Grandma, there could only be one matriarch in this family, and she was willing to lose everything as a result of her stubbornness.
