How many times have you tried to explain something current to your grandparents, and all you get in return is extreme confusion written all over their faces?
We all know that social norms have changed a great deal in recent years. In fact, they change so often that sometimes it’s kind of hard to keep track. What was super acceptable ten years ago might be wildly frowned upon today, and vice versa. We all know elderly people who find young people’s actions confusing and even unbelievable at times.
The thing is, humans are so adaptable that we tend to forget that something that we’re so used to doing now was considered odd just a few years ago. Life is changing so quickly, we don’t have time to dwell on every little thing that happens. It is only when we actively stop and think about it that we might recognize the craziness that we include in socially acceptable behavior.
Is it weird that we film ourselves in public? Should we not order Ubers or go in random people’s cars? Or is it okay to embrace change, especially those based on the world’s technological advancements? The Reddit thread below might be the one to give you the opportunity to stop and think about some things we do that, on second thought, might be considered weird. Then, we can dive into social behaviors that we might consider getting rid of altogether.
I know there are some things on the list below that I would love to see disappear from the world, and some that I wouldn’t ever want to give up on. Scroll down to decide which social behaviors you would keep, and which you would gladly get rid of.
