Nonchalance Isn’t Considered a ‘Cool Guy’ Personality Trait Anymore, It’s a Coping Mechanism

There’s always at least one «cool guy» in every action movie. They’re always level-headed under pressure, defiant in the face of villainy, and never seem rattled by blood-curdling explosions, destruction of property, or excessive (yet always justified) violence. They’re the unlikely survivor of a car chase gone wrong, seemingly bulletproof, and, as a result, the penultimate conduit of coolness.

Consequently, coolness has become synonymous with apathy, drawing an inaccurate correlation between our favorite action heroes and their trauma-driven psychological disposition.
