Oklahoma’s Dept of Wildlife Conservation Tried to Use the ‘If You’re Cold, They’re Cold’ Meme Against Us & Failed

If you’ve spent any time on the internet over the past few years, you’re probably familiar with the «If you’re cold, they’re cold» meme at this point. It’s supposed to be a heartfelt plea to pet owners who let their animals frolic in nature. But, as with many things on the world wide web, it’s turned into a meme. Usually the memes suggest letting an apex predator in, or (a little more innocently) possums and raccoons – our favorite meme-able trash animals.

According to a tweet from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife, they don’t find the jokes to be funny. On January 20th, 2022, their official account tweeted a photo of a mountain lion lying playfully on its back in the snow. The caption reads «YOU are cold. They have fur.  Do not let inside.»

While the sentiment of the tweet is arguably logical, the animal lovers of the internet were not having it. Nobody likes being told what to do. And apparently that’s especially true on Twitter.
