We can all admit that the 21st century started with a bang as far as cinema is concerned. American Psycho is considered to be one of the best movies of all time, and it’s not surprising why. Christian Bale gives a fantastic performance as Patrick Bateman: a yuppie finance guy by day and a crazed murderer by night. The movie is a razor-sharp satire about the desire to maintain appearances at all costs. Bateman doesn’t want to be perceived as an individual. He wants to blend in amongst all the other boring young professionals living in New York City in the 1980s. He’s able to commit so many murders because he’s so skilled at manipulating his own image as a privileged person in society. I can only say so much about this incredible movie, so if you haven’t seen it yet, you might be tempted to click out of this piece and watch it.
