In just a few short years, the conversation has shifted from ‘learn to code’ to ‘technology can code for you’.

It has never been easier or more difficult to be a programmer, depending on what your skillset is. Now, it seems like every other company is laying off its developers because of some wondrous AI tool that is going to make all its coding more efficient and cheaper, and vibe coding is rife among those programmers who still hold down a job. Where it used to be a mere instrument, the computer is now running the show, and every person who codes is trying to build their skill around that.

There is mounting evidence to suggest that, at least at the point where the technology is now, it is actually a pretty dumb idea to insist that artificial intelligence can handle all of the coding needs of our ever more digital society. As it stands, computers need the human touch to bring us all these services that we have come to rely on them for, and that is where the old-fashioned type of programming comes in. The battle isn’t over yet.

With the way the state of the world is for programmers, there has never been a time when programming memes have been more needed. Wrangling computers has never been a simple task, and the stress relief that comes from stupid internet humor is the best salve for when things get extra frustrating. Coding might be annoying every so often, but it is also the reason we get to see memes.
