Listen. I’m not proud of it, but I’ve watched every season of Bridgerton. I actually watched the first season twice. And while the series may seem better suited to repressed moms, my friends and I relished every single moment of sexual tension and every inch of Regé-Jean Page’s glorious body. The second season of the sultry Shondaland period piece was released over a year ago, and fans have been buzzing with excitement over the prequel Shonda Rhimes developed about the prominently featured Queen Charlotte.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story was finally released on May 4th, and follows the love story of Charlotte and King George, as well as Charlotte’s later efforts to secure an heir for the royal throne. Fans have been reacting very positively to the series, with some saying it’s the best Bridgerton story yet. Viewers also seem to appreciate how the series fleshes out the royal couple’s relationship and the very raw and touching portrayal of King George’s struggles with mental illness. People seem to appreciate the sexy stuff, too, but that’s kind of why people watch Bridgerton in the first place.
