People on the internet seem to love «fixing» things. It often happens when fans think they know better than the artists (who sometimes clap back) themselves. These «fixers» will do everything from changing a character’s pose, to increasing their bust size or subtracting clothing. It’s a practice that is both very insulting and very prevalent on Twitter. But today. Today, we saw something worse than these kinds of fussy fans.

Looks like some Marvel fan was unhappy with Zendaya’s casting and decided to Photoshop her to look more like MJ – who isn’t even the character that the Euphoria actress portrays. In the latest Spider-Man iterations, Zendaya brings a brand new character, Michelle Jones, to life. While Jones does go by «MJ,» the character is actually an homage to Mary Jane Watson. Judging by the replies to this tweet, there are a lot of MCU stans out there who were unaware of the character differences. Some of these  Marvel fans below seem to have no problem excusing the whitewashing/racism, even by crying «gingercide» which, um, isn’t a thing. 

As entertaining as the Twitter drama is, this trend of altering art, and even people, seems to be getting out of hand. Maybe it’s delusions of grandeur from Tumblr artists, or people who have too close a relationship with the past, but either way the practice should probably stop.
