Stupid Dad Claims Math Education Should End In Middle School After Not Understanding His Kid’s Algebra Homework

Not everybody thrives in a math class. I was not a STEM goddess in school, but I tried my best to get through Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus as unscathed as possible. Even though math is widely considered a challenging area of study, there’s no denying that it’s a crucial part of education. Math is the foundation of all careers in STEM, one of the fastest-growing industries. You’d have to be anti-intellectual to claim that math has no purpose in a high schooler’s education. It makes sense that kids who hate math wish they didn’t have to take it, but as an adult, it’s expected that you see the value in education as more than a career training venture. One anti-intellectual father made his case against math education, tweeting the following.

«A problem from my 12yo’s math. We are firmly past what 99% of adults ever need to know and clearly into abstract reasoning development. Most people should stop math education in middle school. They know enough and further math instruction is a waste of time and frustrating.»

If you think that sounds ridiculous, wait until you see the math problem he’s referring to.
