Oh, those pesky game developers. Whatever crazy conceit will they think up next? Perhaps they’ll give gamers something with the kind of storyline so rich and detailed that we can’t help playing them over and over, just to catch all the tiny details we might have missed. Maybe they will find a way to revolutionize the first person shooter, so that we may never look on the format the same way again. Most likely, though, is that they’ll just bring in a load of semi-useless patches and pricey «upgrades» for games that they know we are too much of a hopeless addiction for us to stop playing. Maybe if we’re lucky, we’ll get a tepid sequel for a smash hit thrown in for good measure. To be a gamer is to know frustration on many levels, not least with those who bring us the hobby that we love. That’s not always a bad thing, though. It means that we get to make memes complaining about it.
