Gilderoy Lockhart is one of the funniest characters in the entire Wizarding World. He’s one of those goofy, incompetent, largely unimportant fake-out villains that could’ve only come out of the first few books. It is such a wonder how this man got hired at this school. Professor Quirrell, I get it. He’s a socially awkward guy who happens to have Voldemort on the back of his head, but at least he knows the basic tenets of magic! Lockhart is worse at magic than 12-year-old kids who have only trained in it for two years. His mere presence in the school proves Dumbledore’s hiring practices are seriously misguided. If Dumbledore knew Snape wasn’t a death eater the whole time, why didn’t he hire him for the Defense Against the Dark Arts Position from the get-go? It might be cursed, but I think good old Snape could’ve overcome that roadblock. Or even if he didn’t, he could’ve gotten that cursed position over within his first couple of years of teaching!
