I’ve recently been grappling with a question that I’m sure keeps us all up at night: When is Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark coming back to Broadway? I know the Spider-Man musical has been an object of derision for over a decade, and I understand why. It was a critical and financial failure, running only three years and failing to recoup its expensive $75 million budget. It was in previews for months, so that the theater critics couldn’t review it and reveal what a disaster it was and has always been. It was the most expensive musical of all time, and it didn’t show. So many actors in that production got injured from Spidey stunts that there’s a whole section of the Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark Wikipedia about it. It’s going to be a while until Peter Parker hits the stage again, and maybe that’s a good thing.
