Bad news for anybody who was enjoying the laziness and mild confusion of the holiday period, today is the day when we have to snap back into reality, no excuses. All those things that you claimed you would circle back to in January? It is time to circle until you get dizzy. There are targets to hit and shareholder value to increase, don’t you know.

There are some employed people who like to look on the bright side of things at this point in the year, and claim that it is nice to have a semblance of normality back. On one level, you can kind of understand where they are coming from, but on another, it feels like dweeb behavior. 

The reality is that it takes readjustment to get back to being comfortable in the office, and for those who hate their jobs, that comfort doesn’t come at all. All that the checked out and cynical have to cling to is the hope that they get their next paycheck, and the fact that they get to relate to the world of work memes. The way that internet humor tackles the workplace allows us to know that (almost) everybody has these professional struggles.
