I feel like most people would agree with me when I say that not all lies are bad. Sometimes we need a little light fibbing to spare somebody’s feelings, or to make things run more smoothly. Also, every time we exaggerate we’re telling a type of lie, technically speaking.
However, some lies are more nefarious than others. It feels like a true breach of trust when somebody falsifies information about something that is truly important to us, but unfortunately it happens all the time. These lies don’t just come from the people in our lives, either — all sorts of organizations and companies lie to us, and sometimes we even lie back.
Is there anywhere we can find the good old-fashioned truth any more? Judging by a recent Reddit thread, maybe not. Asking people to list some of the biggest and most widespread lies, there were plenty of serious and playful examples to be had. Falsehoods are everywhere.
