The Cringiest Parenting Posts of the Week (August 21, 2023)

Recently, I’ve been seeing a lot more parents online talking about «unschooling» their children. Unschooling was one of those things that ABC might’ve covered ten years ago as a human interest piece, but nobody really took it seriously as a way to educate kids. For those of y’all who don’t know, this is the definition of unschooling.

«Unschooling is an informal learning method that prioritizes learner-chosen activities as a primary means for learning.»

Basically, the kids chose what they study that day. Clearly, this is not a great way to build a well-rounded knowledge of math, literature, history, and science. I loved going to museums and exploring when I was a kid, but that wouldn’t be a good foundation for high school or college. I didn’t retain much from going to the planetarium one time. Every day, we see more and more wild parenting movements online, especially on cringe mommy Facebook groups. These posts are the best (or worst, depending on how you slice them) of the week.
