When I was a little kid, a friend’s older brother told us that there was a possessed severed hand that lived under the Golden Gate Bridge and would snatch children from cars that drove across it at night. Maybe it was his convincing delivery, but I fully believed this absurd scary story and was terrified (for years) of crossing the bridge at night. There was one time my family drove up to Napa Valley for the day, and as the hours passed, I kept urging my parents to take us all home before sunset. They didn’t listen. When we drove across the bridge in the dark, you better believe I was sweating up a storm. Miraculously, against all odds, I made it home that night.
Someone recently asked the people of Reddit about the biggest lies they ever believed, and the responses are pretty priceless.
