Sometimes, I question Disney’s decisions, only to be surprised by how brilliant they were. For instance, opening up a new theme park land based on Avatar (2009) seemed so nuts in 2017. The fact that they had gotten past the ideas stage with that and actually built it shows how much faith they had in the concept. The idea of ‘Avatar 2’ was a running joke for years, with everyone thinking that the long-anticipated sequel to James Cameron’s masterpiece would never come out. Granted, it is pretty absurd that it didn’t come out until ten years after its original slated release year. Nevertheless, after the ridiculous success of Avatar: The Way of Water, it’s clear that the Na’vi will be a part of our culture for a long time, both in theaters and in Disney parks.
