The new year is upon us, and you know what that means! It’s time to see what historical event referenced in Star Trek will occur in 2024! This year, that answer isn’t that hard to find. Lieutenant Commander Data referenced the Irish Reunification of 2024 in the episode «The High Ground.» This line got the episode removed from its first run in the UK, and to this day, some networks refuse to syndicate it. It broadcast on the BBC for the first time 17 years after its initial release. 

The most famous 2024 episode comes from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. «Past Tense» follows Commander Sisko, Dr. Bashir, and Jadzia Dax as they materialize in 2024 San Fransisco and find themselves in a walled-off homeless district on the eve of a history-making riot. While these plotlines might not take place this year, it’s always interesting to see where Star Trek thought we’d be at this point.
