This might be unique to Gen Z, where our parents were smart enough about social media to look at our pages and monitor our posts but resigned to the fact that they can’t stop us from using it entirely. My mom would always warn that employers would be looking me up online to see if I’m too much of a party girl to work for a company. I’m sure it’s still true that HR departments do a scan of a potential new hire’s social media to ensure that they’re not posting transvestigation conspiracy theory videos 18 hours a day. I used to think I wouldn’t get hired if someone found me using foul language on Twitter, but it’s become increasingly clear that there are much worse things you can do on social media than swearing or being «unprofessional.»
