The Most Entertaining Parenting Texts of the Week (April 15, 2025)

Tell me if you’ve heard this one before: «I’m going to have kids early so I can enjoy my 40s and 50s.» Or what about this one: «I’m going to wait until I’m 30 to have a kid so I can enjoy my twenties.» These lines of reasoning are predicated on the notion that having kids is not enjoyable and is something you want to be relieved of eventually or postpone. Of course, there are the parents who have kids in their early 20s and then start all over again when they’re in their late 30s, prolonging the time when they have kids in their house by decades. They are going to enjoy their life, whether they have kids or not. I hope that when or if I have kids, I won’t look at those 18 years they’re living with me as a period of miserable indentured servitude. But again, who am I kidding? I’m a 25-year-old goofball who’s only responsible for myself.
