The Once Calming ASMR has Now Become a Parody of Itself

Not every regular user of social media knows what the «Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response» is. However, it is highly likely that they have come across «ASMR» if they have spent enough time scrolling. Almost anything can be given this label with the right sound effects or a crisp enough microphone.

For those who have never experienced it, ASMR can be difficult to understand. It is best described as a calming, tingling sensation in the brain that some people get in response to auditory and visual stimuli.

This could involve almost anything, including but not limited to playing with slime, eating a large meal, constructing an elaborate, viewer-centered roleplay, or simply making different tapping sounds for three hours straight. The beauty of ASMR comes from its randomness. However, the problem is that this randomness has made a once-niche community subject to oversaturation and quality decline.
