‘They can’t afford a child’: Couple asks friends and family to finance their $27,000 IVF treatment, get offended when their sibling refuses to give them $10,000

Raising a child is expensive. If you’re unfortunate enough to attempt to have a child in America, with healthcare costs, it’s debatably even more expensive to even birth the child. To complicate things even further, most American healthcare companies don’t recognize IVF (in vitro fertilization– a technique to have a baby despite all natural odds) as a «medical necessity» so most folks who can’t conceive naturally are even more strapped for cash if they want to become parents.

One person on Reddit recently shared exactly how much it would cost a person to have a baby through IVF and how their sister-in-law and her husband begged them to help them finance their $27,000 dream. What’s more crazy than the price tag of an IVF baby is that it’s a gamble with no guaranteed return as well as a system that offers a financing option to people who can’t afford it up front. That’s right, you can take out a loan to pay for your test tube baby.

Well, apparently OP’s SIL couldn’t qualify for a loan, so they came to their sibling to cover the final costs with one, ridiculously huge ask. Keep scrolling for the full story on how this financially insecure family was prepared to roll the dice one last time for a chance at parenthood– no matter what the cost.
