‘Time to work 3% less hard’: Company announces record-breaking profits, cuts employee’s 401ks in the same meeting

There’s a basic convention that says the harder you work, the more you should be rewarded. It’s one of the tenets of our economic system. Of course, this is rarely actually the case. The jobs that require the most out of you usually pay the least. Think about caretakers, construction workers, teachers, and farmers. These are all truly essential jobs that we need to survive as a human race, but those are never the richest people.

Sure, we have grand ideas about communes where everyone does everything collectively and reap the benefits, but most of us don’t live in that kind of world. We go to jobs where we work hard and hope that our bosses notice us. Then we hope that we’ll get rewarded for it. That’s the situation this worker found themselves in when a meeting to reward their hard work came with an unexpected consequence. Make it make sense.
