‘Titanic 2: Electric Boogaloo’: Twitter Reacts To Missing Submarine Full of Titanic-Exploring Tourists

Conventional wisdom tells us we should not build a Titanic 2. If they said the ship was unsinkable the first time, there’s no reason we should believe them, even over a hundred years later, when they tell us it’s «actually unsinkable this time.» Although a real recreation of the doomed ship has yet to come to fruition, there are numerous Titanic-themed tourist attractions in cities across the world. There are Titanic museums, there’s a Titanic Off-Broadway musical, and most dangerously, there’s an unregulated submarine that can take you to the ship’s wreckage at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. The Titanic musical might set you back $100, but it costs $250,000 for the submarine experience, which is a pretty piss poor deal in light of recent events.

This past Sunday, a submarine exploring the Titanic wreckage with five people onboard went missing near Newfoundland, and has yet to be found. Because of the Titanic’s reputation as a melodramatic and humorous tragedy and the absurdity that people would pay a quarter of a million dollars for something so dangerous, Twitter has had a field day with this missing submarine.
