Happy Tuesday, Lord of the Rings fans. What are some of your first memories as a devotee of the books and movies? One memory that always gets me happened a long, long time ago – when I was in high school and  The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King was in theaters. My friends and I were so excited that we dressed up in our most fantasy-esque garb, had a nice mom buy us some wine, and went off to the Pavilion to sink into the possible bedbug-ridden seats and enjoy the show. Unfortunately, on our way there, we managed to break the cork, and had to stop at a nearby friend’s house to borrow their parents’ corkscrew. With the power of quick wit, teamwork, and (of course) friendship, we were able to open the bottle of cheap Malbec and drink it while drooling over Viggo Mortensen. While it’s true that the movie felt a bit long, it was probably the best night we had all year. 

These days I’m more excited if my high school friends are down for a marathon than if I successfully open a bottle of wine. And unfortunately they’re not even down to join me once a year. But we still send each other loads of Lord of the Rings memes. I’ve got a bit of an advantage as I make this roundup every week.
