How do you deal with an employee who is great at their job, but bad with people?
Top performers are not always pleasant to be around. If someone is motivated enough to work as hard as they need to to succeed, they might not be particularly interested in workplace pleasantries. They might think of asking their coworker, «How was your weekend?» as a waste of breath, preferring to stay in their own little world. What they don’t know is that metrics and numbers are not the only important part of their job. If you want to succeed in business without really trying, the best way to do so is to be a nice guy. Nobody wants to work with someone who is surly and irascible because they think they’re better than everyone else. A kind employee with mediocre KPIs might be better for the company than the cruel employee who blows everyone out of the water with their work.
