Why are matcha and pink basically a personality type now?

I will be the first to say that I absolutely love girly things. And I’m sure that’s because I’m a girl. I grew up watching Barbie movies, playing dolls, and dressing up, so of course I’ll love any memes that can showcase that. In my family, there’re no boys. For real. I only have sisters and female cousins. I don’t know why this is like this, but my family is the only one that I know that has this unique quality. And since there are only women, you can imagine how we were raised.

One of the unique things that happened in my household was that there was never a shortage of opinions. Every family gathering felt like a panel of experts discussing a serious topic, since everyone had something to say about the matter at hand. Whether it was fashion, TV gossip, relationships, or movies, there was always a conversation happening somewhere. Although it was chaotic, it was also a lot of fun.

Now that I’m older, I think that growing up surrounded by women made me good at appreciating little things. A matching pijama set, cute stationery, scented candles, sparkly clothes… all of that became (and still are) a big part of my daily life. None of these things were treated as silly or unimportant: they were simply things that brought all of us joy.

Life can be stressful, and sometimes the best remedy is something small and comforting. Maybe it’s buying yourself a matcha latte for the day, putting on a face mask ok, or sending your friends a meme that describes your entire personality in one image. I think this is why I love girl memes so much. They take all those specific experiences, habits, and little obsessions that so many women share and turn them into something hilarious and relatable.
