As far as the youngest adults in society are concerned, it has never been more «over» for anybody over the age of 25. «Man, I told these 23 year old girlies I was 28 last night and they went ‘whaaaat, you look so gooood!’,» complained one Twitter user last month. «Yeah bro I’m 28.» The comments were filled with people who had similar experiences. Others were insisting that this is an issue that has worsened in the past few years.
The post offers only one example of the war Gen Z has waged against «old» people. Those in their late 20s and above, and sometimes younger, are talked to as if they have reached retirement age. Designated as «unc» (uncle) and «auntie» by certain corners of the internet, their time as the main character is over. These uncs and aunties are now relegated to the role of the embarrassing and sometimes entertaining distant relative who remembers being cool, once. Some memes even semi-ironically make fun of those born in 2007 as reaching «unc status.»
