University library charges student $100+ in late fees, student sneaks late books back onto the shelves and claims she already returned them: ‘Every late fee was erased.’

She took her fate into her own hands.

Have late fees ever kept you from returning to the library? If you have a library book lying around your house that you checked out months ago, you might be afraid to bring it back, because you know you owe the library a lot of money.

In the digital age, you’re a lot less likely to rack up a bunch of late fees at the library. If you’re reading a book digitally on Libby, the app can automatically revoke your access to the book after it’s due. You can’t damage a digital book the way you can a physical one. If you check out a PDF from the library, you’re not physically keeping others from reading said PDF the way you would be if you checked out the only physical copy of a book from the library.

There have been endless sitcom episodes about literate characters trying to get out of library late fees, but this story is more entertaining than all of them. This broke college student forgot to return her library books, and she was able to get away without spending a cent on late fees, even though she was supposed to pay $100+.
