‘We are all mercenaries. Act like it’: Cold-blooded company fires employee on their 2 year anniversary

Being fired has to be one of the worst feelings in the world. Sure, if you’re doing it right, a job is never everything to you, but it is a whole lot. It means stability, routine, and an income upon which to build your life. But aside from the logical concerns, getting fired can also feel like a betrayal on a personal level.

Companies love to insist that they’re families, but you usually can’t fire somebody from your family. You’ve probably developed work relationships, and tried your best to make friends, or at least allies. So when that is ripped away so suddenly, it can feel like a personal thing, like a friendship ending or a relationship breakup. But at least you can file for unemployment. This recent Reddit story is a flagrant example of workplace betrayal in its purest form. Hearts out to the subject of this story, this one was particularly cruel.
