Cats have been memetic muses for decades now, and the schtick hasn’t gotten old yet. Why is that? There are probably some reasons that relate to meme culture itself, like the way it shapeshifts and creates new or slightly altered ways to riff on the same old topics while remaining funny. There’s also the fact that with so many memeable animals out there these days, it makes perfect sense for cats to keep a paw in the game. 

Perhaps the most important factor of all, though, is that there are a lot of people in the world who just really love kitties. It’s not like you can blame them, because they’re both adorable and hilarious. Cats have been bringing light (and the tiniest bit of annoyance) to the lives of humans for a long time, and memes are just another way of carrying on that tradition. Long live cat memes.
