In some ways, TikTok was never as much of a revolution as it was made out to be. People had been doing ridiculous, embarrassing, and overly candid things on the internet for years at this point. The main difference is that it made all of this seem a lot more accessible, and normal. Even more easily than the golden era of YouTube, you could get out your phone and spill your juiciest secrets with full identity attached.

There are undeniably going to be some not-so-great long-term consequences to this, but in the mean time, we get to enjoy the wild ride. One thing that TikTok isn’t short on is entertainment, even if it happens to be the more questionable kind. Even those who disparage it have to admit that it is very good at distracting us from more serious topics with the selection of cringe and screwball humor that we have at our disposal.
