Woman refuses brother’s babysitting demands, bringing an end to years of being taken for granted: ‘I’m not going to put my life on hold just because I’m “aunt”’

Families are masters of expectation management. They have an uncanny ability to make you feel responsible for their problems, as if you’re the family Swiss Army knife—capable of solving everyone’s issues while magically maintaining your own perfectly organized home, job, and mental health. They don’t just ask for help, they assume you’ll be there to bail them out with a mere whisper of «family.» It’s like they have a special radar that detects when you’re about to achieve something that resembles balance in your life, and they swoop in just in time to wreck everything.

They basically think a text message from them should act like a bat-signal for you, only they don’t need a bat-shaped volunteer vigilante, they need a sibling-shaped volunteer babysitter.
