What’s disrespectful about waving «hi» to your neighbors?

I have a bad feeling about people who don’t let their husband have any female friends, or vice versa. If you view every interaction that your wife has with another man as a potential situation where she is cheating, you probably don’t have a very healthy marriage. And yet, couples in certain cultures do this all the time, because they’re so afraid of being cheated and, for some reason, do not trust their partner to be loyal to them, even though that is what they promised each other on their wedding day. 

Some couples in some cultures take this even a step further. Not only do they forbid friendships with members of the opposite gender, but they also don’t want women interacting with men socially at all. They can’t ask their plumber how his week is going, because it’s disrespectful to their husband’s authority. Obviously, this is bogus, but it won’t stop some couples from fully buying into it. 

The dude in this story waved to his female neighbor after seeing her husband wave to her. Instead of waving back at him and being friendly, she found him on Instagram, and told him that they did not find his waving funny, asked him not to do it again, and called it «disrespectful.» She sounds like a real piece of work! Or more likely, a woman who is under the control of a regressive husband.
