Here we are, in the middle of September, starting a new workweek once again. Welcome to our weekly Monday meeting, you hardworking employees. This time, as usual, our meeting’s only purpose is to deliver an update on the newest and most relatable work memes on the internet. You deserve them!
My favorite Monday lie is that I’m going to ease into the day. My confidence starts to fall apart when I open my laptop, organize my tabs, and make a reasonable to-do list. Ten minutes after starting my Monday shift, somebody has already marked a message as urgent, a coworker wants me to help with something, and my coffee hasn’t even finished doing its job. My emotional preparation for today leaves the chat. I’m not ready to deal with whatever life throws at me today. My mind is still in my Sunday afternoon mood. I need a reality check.
Monday does the reality check very well. As soon as I answer my first email, I reply with an enthusiastic «Sounds good!» when actually nothing sounds good at all. Nothing can sound good on a Monday. Please, let us live in an eternal weekend, can’t we? Why can’t we have a long weekend forever? Like, we would all be a lot happier if every weekend was a long one. We deserve long weekends. It’s not fair to work for five days only to get barely two days of free time. Anyway, that’s how the corporate world works; there’s not much we can do about it. But there is actually something we can do…
Laugh at work memes. Yes, no one can take that away from us. As long as we can still have a laugh, then there’s nothing we can’t survive. So, listen to me. Take a few minutes, enjoy the memes, and then come back to whatever tab is demanding your attention. After all, we have to be thankful for our jobs. Being employed is worth celebrating. On Mondays, it’s a bit more difficult to feel that way, I know. But we are lucky. So gather your strength, and let’s get this paycheck, everybody!
