16-year-old yells at her mom for accusing her of being pregnant, mom refuses to take her to the doctor to find out the real reason for her medical issues: ‘If you’re not pregnant you should have nothing to worry about’

It’s easy to jump to pregnancy when your teenage daughter says, «I have something to tell you.» There is always some possibility of it happening, and as a parent, you have to be prepared to handle it. But just because your teenager is throwing up in the morning, gaining weight, or has missed a couple of periods does not mean that she is pregnant. Those can definitely be signs, but if a teenager is having major health problems and insists that there’s no way she could be pregnant, it’s best not to ignore those signs of major medical events.

If you think your teen daughter might be pregnant, it can be a complex subject to broach in a calm and non-confrontational way. It can get especially awkward if the teen is insistent that there’s not a chance she could be pregnant. A pushy but responsible mom might make her take a pregnancy test if she’s not quite sure she’s telling the truth. Better safe than sorry.
