Why is it her roommate’s responsibility to do her laundry?
Are you comfortable with other people touching your clothes? I don’t really have a complex about other people briefly touching my clothing, especially when I’m at fault. When I was in college, people would take other people’s laundry out of the dryer if it had been sitting there for too long, and they needed to use the machine. Heck, people would even take other people’s clothing out of the dryer immediately after it was done, because they didn’t want to wait. That can be kind of annoying, especially if you come to take your clothes out of the dryer as some random is doing it for you, but sometimes it is necessary. If you only have one washer and dryer in your building, you can’t sit around all day waiting for your downstairs neighbor to take their laundry out of the washing machine. They’ve got to learn somehow!
My roommates and I often finish each other’s laundry if one of us has to leave the apartment before our cycle ends, and that works well for us. Nobody gets mad if they have to take someone else’s load out of the dryer and put it on the kitchen table, because everyone leaves their clean clothes in the dryer every once in a while.
There is a difference between moving someone’s laundry out of the way so you can use the laundry machines and making your roommate do your laundry for you. The woman in this story expects her 19-year-old roommate to do her laundry, even after she has helped her pay her rent multiple times. How entitled can you get?
