Sunsets are one of the most beautiful things in our natural world. Arguably gorgeous because their colorful aesthetic is completely effemeral, sunsets make everyone rush to pull out their phones and snap a picture of the glowing gold, orange, and purple sky. Meemaw will love that picture. But one of the best parts of being a human on this earth is understanding that we can’t ever capture that sunset. We can’t bottle lightning or preserve its effervescent beauty. It exists only for a moment and we’re here to enjoy it as much as we can. That’s why sunsets are so special.
Alas, several things in the human world are equally amazing. A kind comment from a stranger or a genuine smile from the doorman are little reminders of the good in everyone out there. Regardless of how terrible times may seem or how tough a day of work has been, fixate on the tiny wonders that make the world go ‘round, no matter how benign it may seem.
Next time you have the chance, take 60 seconds to stop and look up at the sky around sunset, absorbing the brief but awe-inspiring wonder of our cool little corner of the universe.
