Where are all of my F1 girlies at? 

It’s been a looong time since F1 was a boys-only kind of sport. Us girls are here to stay, and we love it. We have a whole new world opening up for us with Susie Wolff and her F1 Academy project. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like we weren’t here before; we’ve always liked to feel the adrenaline rush of cars going 186 miles per hour. But in the last few years, it’s been way easier to find other fans and amateur drivers out there. 

F1 is not only about the speed, but it’s also about the DRAMA. These drivers can be such drama queens when they don’t like where things are going. George Russell saying that Verstappen throws a tantrum every time he doesn’t get his way, and then George himself flinging his helmet when he got upset, is one of those moments that live in my mind rent-free. The irony is delicious. And so is their rivalry.

Weekend races are a full three-day event on their own. We get surprises every free practice, every qualifying session, and every Sunday race. There have been even more surprises with the new engine regulations. I mean, Mercedes is still fully dominant on track, not much of a surprise there, but it’s nice to see that Ferrari is starting to fight again. Plus, Hamilton winning in Catalunya warmed up all our hearts. I feel sorry for McLaren, though. They were last year’s champions, and now they can’t even seem to reach the podium. The fact that we have at least three to four DNF’s (Did Not Finish) in every race is also an unusual and fun thing. Well, not so fun for the drivers and their teams, but at least we get more Safety Cars on track to make things interesting. 

I could go on venting about the new engines, the change of regulations, the unfair penalties, but that would get sad too quickly. So I better let it go and just wait for the next race weekend, hoping that everything works itself out and teams can figure out the right car settings for their drivers, the tracks, and their strategies. Please, race engineers, don’t mess up the strategy. And let’s hope the pit stops are fast enough. We don’t want to meme any drivers having to say, in the words of Charles Leclerc, that they just had «an inchident«on the pit lane or anywhere else.
