I will never get over how good Robert Eggers’s 2016 film The VVitch is. What sets it apart from most horror movies for me is its use of brief moments of horror. I will never forget that bird and what it did to the mom…it works because it’s a viscerally horrifying, memorable moment. I hate when horror movies try to make the entire thing scary through jump scares and useless suspense and fail to deliver any compelling visuals or climaxes. It’s all so samey the whole time, and that’s why so many mediocre horror movies are forgotten until Lord Tubi snatches them up and displays them for all to see. 

One of the best things that The VVitch gave us was the iconic quote, «Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?» Besides the fact that it was uttered by the most iconic character in the film, Black Phillip, it’s also a question that everyone has to ask themselves at some point.
