There’s nothing like the games you played when you were a kid. There’s something that hit so differently about being a child who gamed. Maybe it’s because we didn’t have any other games to compare them to, or maybe it’s because our synapses weren’t so dopamine-fried that it was easier to impress us. Looking back at those games, playing those games, can be at once a rush of nostalgia and a reminder that games have come a long time in our lifetimes. I used to think the Lara Croft games were the peak of game design.
Now I look back and she looks more like a Roblox character than an actual human. But looks aren’t everything, you also need to have a sense of fun and experimentation in your games or else we would have never played them. Maybe it’s time to get back to basics and play some old games. Or maybe it’s time to look at some memes about them.
