Summer vacation is when your parenting skills get truly tested. It’s hard enough during the school year when you have to help them with their homework and drive them to karate every Wednesday, but what about when you’re tasked with making sure they don’t get sunburnt when they insist on running off every 45 minutes? But this is what summer is for. It’s for long days at the beach, long walks around your neighborhood, ice cream sandwiches, and bike rides. 

At least it was when you were a kid and your parents would just lock the door behind you and tell you not to come back until the street lights turned on. Heaven knows you would get into a lot of trouble, setting off fireworks, creating secret lairs in the woods, and other, less legal activities. Summer is when it’s the most fun to be a kid. So if it’s a little harder as a parent, it’s okay.
